"China teacher"

Our local paper attempted some investigative reporting into a school district fiasco: "Cost of China teacher for a year: $17,815". There are a few things I'd like to highlight:

1) It should be "Chinese teacher". Must be our unpolished, ungrammatical McDowell County dialect (and way of thinking).

2) The paper/school board/community has repeated attacked the individual teacher, which shames me as a resident/teacher/American.

3) The nice way to say it is the community harbors "resentment of former textile workers towards China". And so you take a stand against a Chinese teacher? Does that even make sense? Yet, you will continue to shop at Walmart and buy all those Made in China, cheap, plastic crap for those everyday low prices. I wonder what drives outsourcing more: guest teachers or your consumerism?

4) Our superintendent is trying to dig his way out of this one.

A while ago, Nakia joked, "Guess you'll be our only Chinese teacher now." Well, half the district thinks I am her anyway....

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
