summer begins

I split the first watermelon of the year, and Matt, Uwharrie, and I enjoyed its cool, watery goodness on the porch, letting its juice run down our chins onto the front yard. Uwharrie doesn't discriminate between red flesh and white rind -- she's really a furry pig. We hide from the sun that already dried our clothes hours ago, and listen to country music from our neighbor's radio.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
