Outer Banks

Matt's almost done! Less than 30 miles to go, and even though I've watched him hack away at the miles for the last month, I still think what he's done is unbelievable considering the heat wave.

Mom and Dad gave me an afternoon off from crewing. They also rented a sweet second-story cottage one house from the beach that I could fully enjoy today. After waking from a deep nap, Uwharrie and I walked over to the Diamond Shoals Restaurant where we ate last night. It turns out that a corner of the building is a seafood market and I was able to purchase one blue crab, seaweed salad, and steamed shrimp. I haven't eaten such fresh seafood in a long time. Afterwards, Uwharrie and I walked to the beach.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
