free wi-fi at Subway

Coming from Mississippi in March of 2006, I remembered the Ozarks as mountains. Coming from western North Carolina this June, they weren't high enough to be cooler. However, Matt, Uwharrie, and I found a waterfall and deep swimming hole and ate delicious tomato/avocado/bean burritos while watching crawdads in the stream. Our mistake was letting Uwharrie also sleep in the tent: We plucked at least two dozen ticks off of her and ourselves through the course of the night!

The world flattens as we head west with lots of casinos in Oklahoma.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
