west coast size

My spring break trip to San Francisco was exactly what I was looking for: I got a little city, a little backcountry, and a good introduction to the Bay Area; I spent much time with my brother and best friend; and it was relaxing and worlds away from school. Thanks, Grant, for hosting us. I appreciate all the times you interrupted a meeting to run the keys down to us.

Look at the size of these trees! Liz and I overnighted in Pescadero Creek County Park, among these redwoods. I couldn't believe a simple county park was big enough for several day hiking trips. Back east, a county park had a few ball fields. And I think of the Tennessee State Park that was simply a one mile paved path around a pond. I guess that's the beauty of the West, the space and the scale.

Many hugs to Liz and Reevi who are now engaged. :-D

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
