spring break planning

Grant moved out to San Francisco at about the time I began thinking about spring break. It was a hectic first week for him, but when we finally got to talk, he needs no prompting to ask, "So when are you coming to visit?" Well, I was just about to ask. ;-)

Liz has the same spring break that I do, and having spent a summer at Berkley while we were in college, she's all about a trip out there. She'd like to get outside the city and backpack, so I've spent this afternoon on the internet coming up with ideas.

I know nothing about the Bay Area, so I start with the road atlas. Point Reyes National Seashore, Henry Coe State Park, and the Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail are all close to the Bay Area. Snow Mountain Wilderness is about 100 miles away, but has caught my eye, too. We could hike during the week, see Berkley and the city on Friday, and hang with Grant on Saturday maybe. If there's time, I'd also like to visit Becky and Andy.

The wonderful, warm weather and thoughts of going elsewhere on an adventure are buoying up my mood.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
