welcome back

My flight left Kaoshiung International Airport at 4:40pm on Saturday, January 19, 2008. I landed in Los Angeles International Airport at 2:45pm on Saturday, January 19, 2008. How did that happen? ;-)

At the visitor center of Yushan National Park, I discovered that one of the island's more known flowers was the Taiwan lily. Hey, that's me! My Taiwanese relatives call me American, but really, one of the blessings of my life is that I am from and of both countries and cultures. While I'm living in the States, on my own, I sometimes forget that Taiwanese half, and I haven't always done things right towards my parents as a result. But a trip like this back to Taiwan helps to remind me.

Grant and I have just finished a slideshow of our pictures from this trip, and we had many good laughs over them. I'm debating whether to upload them here to the blog or just go ahead and create another webpage about Taiwan. Or Picasa? And there's a video that Grant's got to put on YouTube. Check back!

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
