year of the pig

Happy Chinese New Year! Turns out, I was acting more Chinese than my mom this time around: She and her friends celebrated at an Italian restaurant, hahaha. Meanwhile, Ward, Mike, Dan, Dave, and I made dumplings together.

Someone asked me the other day, what zodiac animal it was this year, and I blanked out. But of course, it was the year of the dog -- my year. Which begs the question, Did it live up to expectations? I know it started out as my lowest point of teaching, and gradually got better as I grew into a stronger person. And there was May, which made everything worth it. And I got my second chance in a new school come fall. So, it certainly wasn't a bad year, but my overriding memory is one of exhaustion. I'm still exhausted, but when it's all over, I'll feel like I've completed something, and I probably haven't experienced that since I finished IB back in high school.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
