neighborhood July 4th in High Point

As a kid, I would have been wide-eyed at this block party -- a Fourth of July parade (with prizes!) and potluck. It is a festive and aesthetic yearly event, thanks to the energy and planning of Diane and Mom. (How do they have this much energy?)

Andy flew in, Matt drove east, and I drove north, all arriving about the same time at Mom and Dad's (Becky and the girls had already been there a month). They had three floors full of people, and I could feel how ebullient Mom was. On Sunday, Judy also joined us for lunch and homemade ice cream topped with fresh South Carolina peaches.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
