orange, red, and yellow

Fall just started in our town, but it's full on in the mountains above us. The overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the parking lot atop Mitchell were packed with cars, people, and dogs. Every once in a while a runner with a familiar face would weave through the crowds, probably looking for a silver Honda minivan with snacks and clothes in it....

Vanessa and I (and two dogs) slipped away down the trail to Mt. Craig. I love the smell of spruces on that stretch.

Next weekend, I bet the South Mountains will have beautiful colors, but this year, I'm headed east to help Mommy unpack and move into her new house in Raleigh.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
