summer vacation has begun!

Tuesday night, I realized that I was nearly done with my classroom, both Matt and Jessica were out of town, and I had nothing to do. Besides, Uwharrie was giving me the I'm-so-bored face. So I started scheming: Where would Matt be on his SB6K adventure Wednesday night? Yellow Face. Hey, there's a stealth campsite not too far off the Parkway. I could surprise him. But only if I run my errands and still don't have to rush....

As Mr. Kirk says, "You can't beat six thousand feet." Uwharrie and I got out here yesterday evening without any hang-ups. In the morning, we ate breakfast beside the car in the Waterrock Knob parking lot and descended down to the Parkway in time to catch Matt. He is doing well on the run so far. Carl passed him off to Adam.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
