The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen is heavy, and I'll probably never finish it. Nevertheless, on my hike this weekend, I thought, These are the words! When people say to focus on the present, is this what they are alluding to? I feel like it's been a good while since I've done that.

From 5750 feet, the Marion fireworks looked tiny. You could have dipped the eraser end of a pencil into yellow paint and blotted black construction paper... and that was pretty much what I saw. But the bursts echoed across the valleys and kept popping after I fell asleep.
