take-off

Last night, Grant and I called our relatives in Taiwan using Skype. After planning, emailing, and discussing them for so long, there was a certain thrill in hearing their actual voice over the speakers. Most picked up with surprise and excitement in their voices. One aunt chatted with us like we talked over the phone every day. An uncle used his classic line, his favorite (and only) sentence of English, "Are you OK?" Gosh, I'm excited!

So this morning, I ran and limbered up for this 14-hour plane ride ahead of me. I had a hearty breakfast. I'm ready to go. See you on/from the other side of the world!

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
