707 miles

We meant to just hitch in and out of town to resupply, but then it was pouring when we stepped out of the country grocery store, and so here we are at the Stratton Motel (which is also a hostel). It's the next morning, and beautiful morning light is filtering through the windows. I'm playing WDVX on the computer and Bugbite is wandering around with her cup of coffee and Andy is reading the New York Times. Matt's just come downstairs with his hair wild and Uwharrie's stretching and wagging her tail. We're going to make ham and cheese omlettes and French toast for breakfast. A lazy Saturday morning, and you could never tell we are on the trail.

I'm healthy and in good spirits, and I hope you are, too.

Glad to see you're still on the trail! I hit Maryland this past Saturday (Aug 25) and have decided that 7 days in DC with friends/family would be a good change of pace. I hope you still plan on heading south from DWG, just keep in mind that the water sources are fairly dry in PA - anything over 1000 ft was dry for me, anything under was probably dry 50% of the time. Spigots in towns are a good thing. :)

Hey Lily!
This is Breadless. Glad to see you are still doing well and that you managed to meet up with Matt. I think he turned off on the Long Trail before I was able to catch him up. I finished up on August 22 and I'm back in North Carolina. I just wanted to drop a line and say hello. I hope you enjoy Maine as much as I did and that your flop goes excellently as well. Part of me is already wishing I were still out there. I'll keep checking in from time to time. Stay well.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
