emailed to me from a hiker I'd met

on top of Catfish fire tower, NJ

The last couple of days, once I left the Delaware Water Gap Recreational Area, I've been hiking along the NY/NJ state line, weaving between the two states. The trail crosses hayfields and meadows, and goes up mountains, and follows country roads sometimes. I know hikers complain that you're going through people's backyards, but I actually like the diversity. I've been hiking with Frindy and Shadow, and they are great people. We've only got five miles to the next shelter, so we got breakfast out and a leisurely start from the Vernon hostel (which is the "undercroft" of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church).

Lily! Happy trails! I'm psyched to read you're having a good hike so far. I'm in Kent, and I'm lolligagging a little bit in hopes of seeing you since it's been a couple years. Keep on keeping on and I'll keep a look out for you!

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
