a twinge of regret

I'm going to be letting my kids down when I go, and there's no assuaging it. Next year, every Mississippi public school has to offer AP for its core subject areas, and I know there isn't anyone at my school remotely qualified to teach AP Biology but me. The only students who could handle it would be Biology students I taught this year, and I have over ten in mind already. They're a bright bunch. I've laid the foundation. If noone followed up on it, what a waste!

But beyond potential, my students aren't expecting me to go. I got a surprise visit from two of my girls this evening as I was making dinner. They were curious about where I lived and what I did outside of school and about my guitar and what I cooked. As they left, one of the girls said, "You was really glad to see us, wasn't you, Ms. Chang?" I was. And you know, they came to see me on their own time, on the weekend. I take that as a compliment.

Ecology studies the interrelationship between organisms and their environment. It originates from the German word okologie, first used in 1873.

This blog documents one organism's interactions with her environment.
What would be the hope of being personally whole in a dismembered society, or personally healthy in a landscape scalped, scraped, eroded, and poisoned, or personally free in a land entirely controlled by the government [or corporations], or personally enlightened in an age illuminated only by TV? - Wendell Berry
